At Surplus Depot at 705 Sunnyside Dr., the glass front door was found smashed and two computers, the cash register, knives, swords and other items were stolen, according to Darrin Berg, Cloquet detective.

04/28/2008 12:00 AM After a peak reading just over flood stage, the St. Louis River in Scanlon is receding, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Friday, the river was running at high levels from considerable snowmelt and heavy rain. The peak reading hit Saturday at just over flood stage of 10.5 feet at 10.6.
Today, however, as of 10:30 a.m., the water level had dropped to 10.14 feet, the National Weather Service said.

After discussion of some of the event’s first-year growing pains, Cloquet city councilors unanimously approved holding the Cloquet Criterium downtown on Monday, May 26. Cyclists will race around a one-mile loop for much of that day, resulting in road closures on sections of Cloquet Avenue, Carlton Avenue, 14th Street and Ninth Street.

Practice Burn in CarltonCarlton practice burn
Saturday’s snow and ice were replaced by heat and flames on Sunday as the Carlton Volunteer Fire Department conducted a practice burn on Chestnut Avenue.
According to Carlton Fire Chief Steve White, the owner of the buildings wanted to get rid of them and offered to let the fire department use them for a practice drill and on-the-job training for new recruits in a controlled setting.
